Why the Arts?
Children facing the challenges of poverty, abuse, homelessness, or other traumatic experiences are often left with debilitating emotional burdens, academic  deficiencies, and a limited view of their own potential. Low self-esteem can cause them to doubt their worth and capacity to succeed. Economic disadvantages create opportunity gaps that prevent these children from experiencing the arts, yet it is the arts that can become their salvation. Art classes give struggling children a way to feel successful and gain longed for positive recognition. The arts increase self-esteem, build confidence, and improve problem solving skills. Art – It’s more than a pretty picture!

ABOUT
Arts After 5 was established in 2015 in response to expressed needs of community
residents to expand enriching activities to this underserved neighborhood at critical after school hours. The after-school program provides weekly classes and special events all designed to teach life skills, teamwork, and improve skills in the performing and visual arts. The Summer Musical, is the culminating event of AA5 school year programs. The Summer Musical brings together the different skills of theater performance, music, dance, and visual arts through six weeks and ends with three shows. This full musical production using a licensed show is unique in the Central Florida arts community in that a cast and crew that is predominantly African-American performs for a local audience that is predominantly
African-American.
